I was a bit alarmed, then saw it was a frog, frogs are great.

    1. Luckily they move very slowly, probably because they have to heft all those spikes with them, I did manage to drop one of these leaves on my head though (It was high up and I cut it, so it fell on me, d’oh!)

  5. Ooh! Fascinating creatures. Look at the spikes on ’em! They’re pretty intense. Do they secrete a poison or anything, do you know? Or is it just a spiky spike, like the roses have going on?
    And..frogs. I wuvs froggies! This one has some lovely markings going on. I don’t know if it’s just my computer screen, but it looks a bit purpley. Which is cool.
    At several stages in life, i’ve lived in houses with outside toilets, and there were always frogs in them ( sometimes IN the actual toilet itself, which is always a bit of a dilemma, especially when you’re busting!). One night i got the fright of my life when a huge green tree frog jumped right onto me in the dark. Once i realised it was indeed just a frog, i calmed down. It sat on my shoulder for a minute, and it was quite lovely 🙂

    1. At some times of the year, the frogs are tiny, about the size of your fingernail, they’re beautiful, but it’s a bit treacherous for them, with all these gardeners tramping around them with spades.
      Not sure I’d want a frog in my toilet, any kind of wildlife in there makes me nervous. When I lived in a place with an outside toilet, there were always maggots in the hole, and then every once in a while they’d turn into a cloud of flies. Yeuk.
      The caterpillars have hairs that are an irritant. They do munch on poisonous leaves, but I think that makes the butterflies poisonous, rather than the caterpillars (could be wrong though).

      1. Aww, how lovely…but yes, it’d be dicey times for such tiny things….
        Yeah, the toilet is not really where you want to see wildlife! Oh my god, that must’ve been digsusting! Maggots make my stomach turn…i can only imagine O.o
        Cool. Well, you know, not cool if you were to be spiked by one…but good to know. Hmmm. Poisonous butterflies….what a thought! I’m getting images of really goth looking ones, with skull markings on their wings 😉

      2. They’re actually very pretty, the bright colours are the warning, but there’s a moth with a skull isn’t there? The death’s head moth, don’t mess with him!

I figured they’d be bright in reality 😉 – like certain poisonous frogs…. actually, isn’t is funny how human beings tend to associate bright colours with joy and other benign qualities, when in nature, it’s generally quite the opposite? Ohh yeah- i do remember that moth! Aaaandd… just googled it, too, to have squizz. It’s quite beautiful.
