Now Tell Me About You…

Any of you familiar with this blog will know I like being nosey and asking you all questions. So here are a few more for you. If you feel inspired, then please answer below, or share and reblog. I look forward to hear what you’ve got to say. I’ll give my own answers next week.

  1. Would you rather be beautiful, an astronaut or able to walk up any surface (ie up walls and along the ceiling)? Why?
  2. Would you rather physically age, mentally age or visibly age?
  3. What was the last good deed you did?
  4. I’ve been watching the Good Place. It’s great. To give a spoiler-free description, it’s a comedy about a Heaven-like place, where you can live in your ideal house in a perfect village, eat all your favourite foods, and hang out with your soul-mate. What three things would you choose to have in your good place?
  5. You get a time machine watch that can only go up to an hour into the past or future. What would you use it for?
  6. You’re such an awesome person, that the mayor of your town has asked you to come up with a national holiday, what would you want the holiday to be for (eg Tree Day, Festival of Dreams), and when would you want it?
  7. What small something would you change right now?
  8. What are your plans for getting older? How do you want to spend your time when/if you stop working? Where do you want to be?
  9. You find out (probably from a magic floating wizard or by text or something) that nothing you do today will have consequences. What’s your itinerary for the day?
  10. When you die your ghost will be trapped in the place of your death, where do you want to die?

Now over to you blogsters!

  1. All your questions are thought-provoking but I feel at the moment I can only do one question justice so I will answer No. 6 about creating a holiday. As New Year’s is in the middle of summer in Australia when lighting fires is dangerous, I would love to have a Winter Solstice Fire festival as a public holiday in the middle of winter. I love the Scottish Fire Festival in Edinburgh and it would be great to have fireworks, fire dances and bonfires on the foreshore of one of Melbourne’s bayside beaches when it’s cold. There is a Midwinter festival in the city (not a holiday) but it’s a bit predictable and not very exciting. We need something more creative away from the city centre which is so restricting and at a time when fire would be appreciated.

    1. It always seems mad to me that seasons are ignored down under when it comes to christian festivals like Christmas; pagan ones make more sense (non-Christian ones too) if set at a more apt time of year than that set by the northern hemisphere. Imbolc, Samhain, Lammas etc are best six months earlier/later than they are in Europe, being tied to agricultural or pastoral needs and the lengths of day’s.

  2. 1. Astronaut — we all need to put human life on earth into its true perspective.

    2. My genes have allowed me to look a great deal younger than the nearly seven decades I’ve existed. But as I’d rather keep my mental and physical health I’d prefer to lose visible signs of aging.

    3. The last good deed? I try to be altruistic every day, so maybe the last
hot drink I made for The Better Half? Buying a copy of The Big Issue from a street vendor?

    4. Ideal house? The one we live in now or an infinite library. My favourite foods? Most rice dishes. My soul-mate? Easy, TBH.

    5. Undoing a harsh or thoughtless word or deed.

    6. Xenophile Day. And that would be every day, not just an annual thing.

    7. The Brexit result, with at least 52% for remain instead of 48%, then we’d see how Leavers would react if the boot were on the other foot. (Not a small thing, I know, but as some politicians think forecast figures can be wrong, who’s to say if these ratios were as reported?) d

    8.
My plans for getting older? I’m already there! Reading, writing, walking, making music, seeing family, blogging…

    9. Buy a round-the-world ticket, no limits? Sadly, TBH’s idea of anxiety writ large. So, no.

    10. When I die I’ll have no concerns as to where I’m laid to rest. Death is for the living to celebrate or not, I’ll be beyond caring!

    1. Great answers! Thank you for that. I love the idea of an infinite library, although hopefully with a really good filing system or you’d never find anything! Interesting what you say about the Brexit vote, it was such a close run thing that the decisions of a few people might plunge the whole country into turmoil for a long, long time.

      1. That’s sounds like you have a really harsh opinion of yourself, that’s really tough. My instinct is to start trying to boost you up, but I know that’s not really helpful. I hope you have a peaceful day though.

  3. 1. Would you rather be beautiful, an astronaut or able to walk up any surface (ie up walls and along the ceiling)? Why?
Definitely I would love to be able to walk up any surface — it would provide such a “superpower” and afford me entirely new experiences.
    2. Would you rather physically age, mentally age or visibly age?
At 65 I have been told I do not “look my age” to which my response is, this is was 65 looks like! That said, my mental and intellectual aging are of prime concern to me, and along with that is generally the requirement of good physical health. So if I had to choose for one of the three, I suppose I would opt for signs of visible aging.
    3. What was the last good deed you did?
I hate to tell people what the good things are that I do in the world, it is boasting and so I keep these between “my concept of god” and me, where any accounting of good deeds belongs.
    4. I’ve been watching the Good Place. It’s great. To give a spoiler-free description, it’s a comedy about a Heaven-like place, where you can live in your ideal house in a perfect village, eat all your favourite foods, and hang out with your soul-mate. What three things wwould you choose to have in your good place?
Good friends, good books, good memories.
    5. You get a time machine watch that can only go up to an hour into the past or future. What would you use it for?
If such a machine existed, I would reserve its use personally for revisiting all the times that I have written and sent impulsively some email I should not have, or likewise, to repair words I spoke that might have caused immediate harm. I would not use it to visit the future, as that could tamper with the present big time and also I prefer the future to remain tantalizingly unknown and unknowable.
    6. You’re such an awesome person, that the mayor of your town has asked you to come up with a national holiday, what would you want the holiday to be for (eg Tree Day, Festival of Dreams), and when would you want it?
Peace Day would be a national holiday of forgiveness where people are supposed to reconcile and make amends for past conflicts , both on the micro or personal scale and on the macro or international level, where this day is reserved for nations to think and act peaceably towards each other, and make attempts to end conflict.
    7. What small something would you change right now?
I would start being able to speak again, having been mute since November 2017…
    8. What are your plans for getting older? How do you want to spend your time when/if you stop working? Where do you want to be?
Having been on disability and not working all my adult life, retirement is meaningless, but I hope to be able to do art till the day I die.
    9. You find out (probably from a magic floating wizard or by text or something) that nothing you do today will have consequences. What’s your itinerary for the day?
First of all, everything we do has consequences, absolutely everything, it is unavoidable, that is the beauty of what is called The Butterfly Effect. Small changes in a system can have enormous down stream consequences, like the butterfly that flaps its wings in Beijing and by a long series of directly traceable consequences and events eventually leads to a hurricane in the Atlantic. We all always affect others and the world in ways we can never perhaps predict or understand the full ramifications of. So given this, I cannot in any rational way answer this question.
    10. When you die your ghost will be trapped in the place of your death, where do you want to die?
Sorry, but this question again leaves me bereft of an ability to answer. I do not believe in trapped ghosts. Energy exists, yes, and maybe we can “leave behind” personal energy that imbues a place, but I do not think one’s Life energy could get trapped in any place just because you died there. And frankly I think your “living ghost,” the life energy and intentionality you project and leave in your LIVING wake is far more important than where you die. We are trapped only insofar as we believe in traps. Ghosts or spirits or just human energy, life is where energy matters, as it warms the blood and invigorates the mind and body. I worry less about where I will die, and whether my “ghost” might be trapped, than that while living I am free in mind enough not to feel trapped or in a prison of someone else making. Freedom is a state of mind, an attitude. Where the body or the ghost is scarcely matters when your mind is truly free.

    1. Some really interesting answers, thank you for sharing. I hope you can do art til the day you die too. I was thinking a similar thing today – that I don’t want to live until I’m ninety if I stop writing or painting long before that, it would feel like an empty life, just marking time.

    1. No, that’s odd. Maybe it’s just a glitch and will pass. Come to think of it, no one else seems to have liked anything today, so maybe it’s a fault on my blog. I shall investigate…

    1. No problem! Did you see my request to reblog your post about the hospital? You wrote an important post and it would be good to share it – although if that’s in any way distressing, then that’s fine, of course.

  4. 1.astronaut
    2.too easy…visibly age
    3 walked a neighbor’s puppy
4 bourbon, a book, and a baseball game
5 averting that breaking news tragedy
6 ice cream sandwich day, or hot turkey sandwich day.
7 the lampshade behind me which seems to torque up, not tone down, screen glare.
8 doing it…write bad poems, play with the retirement portfolio, pretend I’ve got time to read all the books I’m buying, and sip bourbon with my babe of three decades, …and baseball
9 an assignation, or three or four, with those blast from my past never consummated
    10 Library Of Congress

    and thanks

  5. Great answers! The library of congress looks like a great place to spend eternity (if ghosts last that long) and i’ll definitely put in a vote for ice-cream sandwich day, although I don’t think I’ve ever had one, they sound great.

  6. 1. Definitely the ability to walk up walls. I already drive my husband up them; it’s only fair I get that power, too 😀

    2. Hm, I’m going to assume physically age and visibly age aren’t the same thing, so if I did the former, I would still appear the same way, but the way my body feels would deteriorate. Well, I’m already kind of dealing with that lol since I don’t look much older than I did when I was in my twenties, but I certainly FEEL it. I’d probably say mentally age since I’d like to continue gaining wisdom and experience points so long as I don’t develop some kind of dementia.

    3. Another head scratcher, since I at least try to compliment people and hold the door for them all the time, but these are little deeds. I suppose a decent sized one would be I was sitting in my car after coming home and I saw a loose doggie run past. So I got out of my car and called her over. She came right away, the sweet, little pittie, and tried to hop INTO my car lol. Her person wasn’t far away so I was able to hand her off, but I got to pet a puppy!

    4. Endless cake, my own game room with all of the systems and every game I want, and kitty cats ♥

    5. Extra sleep. Instead of hitting the snooze button, I’d just keep turning back time one hour so I could possibly get enough sleep 😉

    6. Tiara or Crown Day! I’ve been thinking about this one for a while, but I really feel like we should bring tiaras into fashion for everyone, and they can be of all different types. Seriously, I don’t know why this isn’t a thing. Hell, I’d say we should all start wearing them every day…I know I do.

    7. The litter boxes in my house would magically become clean.

    8. Writing, reading, gaming, and blogging. That’s pretty much what I would do if I didn’t have to work. I’m hoping I can retire some day. I mean I do work for a company that offers 401k so I guess it’s possible.

    9. I CAN’T WRITE IT. I’LL GET IN TROUBLE D:

    10. Either the cat cafe I frequent or a castle that I somehow bought with my ghost money filled with all of my books.

This was loads of fun. What great questions!

  7. #6 was especially touching as one of the worst disappointments in my childhood was NOT getting to wear the Blue-for-girls birthday crown in first grade. Why? Because my twin sister filched it! ARGH!!! Still lamenting this loss, sorta! — well, okay at 65, I am well over it, actually, but your Crown or Tiara day would still suit me fine!

  8. Well Tiara Day is already looking like a winner. One that bring joy to all and heal all wounds. I’ll get my people on it (just as soon as I can find some people) 😉

    1. No need for thanks, I was happy to follow! It’s true that directing questions out can give people a focus to reply to. Doesn’t always work though.
